If used correctly, Pinterest is one of the most popular social media platforms for increasing blog traffic. However, getting started and growing your Pinterest account is not easy as there’s a lot of ground to cover! In this Pinterest strategy guide, we’ll go over seven tips to increase blog traffic with a Pinterest account and turn it into a powerful traffic machine.

7 Ways To Increase Your Blog Traffic With Pinterest

Before you begin, make sure you have a blog with at least 30 published blog posts.

This way, you’ll be able to implement the strategies right away and gradually increase your blog traffic with Pinterest.

1. Set Up a Pinterest Business Account

Obviously, you can’t implement any strategies if you don’t have a Pinterest account. That’s why create a business account (rather than a personal account) to gain access to the following features:

  • Pinterest Business Hub
  • Pinterest Advertising
  • Pinterest Create
  • Pinterest Analytics

Once you have created the account, it’s time to fill in your profile details & upload a profile picture.

Update Your Profile Details and Picture

If you want to promote your blog as a brand, name your profile after your blog; otherwise, write your name.

The same is true for your profile image. Upload your website logo if it’s about your brand; otherwise, put your profile picture.

When writing the profile description, make sure to include all of the primary niche keywords that you want to target. 

For example, if my blog niche is “Finance”, then I will include budgeting, personal accounting, saving money, etc in my profile description.

Claim Your Website

Once you have updated both of them, claim your website, which will activate the Pinterest analytic option. 

With this feature, you can see which pins and boards are performing well and which are not receiving enough clicks and impressions.

2. Create Pinterest Boards With Relevant Keywords

The next step is to create Pinterest boards with relevant keywords suggested by Pinterest. 

For example, if your blog niche is home decor, you can search it on Pinterest and it will recommend popular topics related to it.

As you can see, I can create boards on 

  • Home decor ideas
  • DIY Home Decor 
  • Handmade home decor, etc

Use these relevant topics to create boards that you believe will be good for saving your blog post pins.

Also, while filling out the board description, look up all the relevant keywords that come up when you search for the board name on Pinterest. Use these keywords to write your board description, and you’re good to go.

3. Try Different Pins

Instead of just one pin for a blog post, aim for five or ten different pins with different designs and titles.

These pins should target different relevant keywords so that your pins can reach a larger audience.

For example, if I want to promote a pin about starting a blog, I will first search the keyword on Pinterest to see what keywords Pinterest recommends.

As you can see in the image below, I can select the following keywords.

Using them, I can create various pins (one pin for each keyword) and then add the keyword to the pin description before saving it to the relevant board.

4. Save Pin To The Most Relevant Board First

The Pinterest algorithm considers your pin as a blank picture when you upload. It doesn’t know what it is about and it’s your job to make them understand.

Though you can accomplish this by 

  • designing a pin with a relevant image and title
  • writing the pin title & description having relevant keywords

Another important factor is saving it to a relevant board so that it’s easier for the Pinterest algorithm to understand what it’s about.

For example, if your pin is about dinner recipes, save it first on a “dinner recipe” board rather than a “recipe” board.

While saving, make sure to include some board description keywords in your pin description so that it matches the board well.

5. Do Not Spam Pins

Previously, repinning the same pin across multiple boards worked. However, it can now land you in hot water.

In many cases, repeatedly repinning the same pin may result in your account being banned. Furthermore, it reduces your profile reach, resulting in less traffic.

As a result, it is best to save your pin on a relevant board only once. Even if you have to repin, wait at least a week between repins and limit them to two or three relevant boards.

This way, your account will be safe and will continue to grow as long as you save new pins on a regular basis.

6. Pin At The Right Time To Improve Engagement

You may have noticed that pinning at a particular time generates the most engagement when compared to other times. This is due to the fact that your audience is more active at that time.

As a result, if you save your pins at the exact time, you can expect higher engagement and clicks.

However, the issue is that you have no idea when your target audience is most active. To address this problem, you can pin your pins using the Tailwind tool, which will automatically schedule your pins at the best time.

This way, your pins will receive more impressions, and if they have a clickable design and title, you can expect more outbound clicks.

7. Analyze Your Pinterest Account Analytics

Pinterest analytics are the most useful feature on Pinterest that can skyrocket your engagement if you know how to use them.

If you look at it, you can find your top boards and pins filtered by impressions, pin clicks, engagements, outbound clicks, and save.

Using this data, you can replicate popular pins with the most outbound clicks and save them on relevant boards having the most impressions.

For example, the following pin is the most popular pin on my Pinterest account.

If I want to boost my traffic, I can create a similar pin with the same title but a different design, image, and color. Then, I’ll save this pin to a relevant board with a lot of impressions. In my case, it’s the “education” board.

If you use this method and duplicate your popular pins with different designs, you will undoubtedly see an increase in traffic.

It takes time to generate traffic from Pinterest, but it is well worth the effort. The only thing you must remember is that you must continue to upload new pins on a daily basis, or at least three or four days per week.
